JD J is the moniker of Jaba, a longtime Tbilisi resident, Mutant Radio host (Out Of Whack), part-owner of the city’s only record store (Vodkast Records) and veteran at clubbing institutions Bassiai and Reflector in Kutaisi. We’ve had the true pleasure of witnessing Jaba play on a few occasions, and despite his extremely humble and gentle demeanour is something of a wild animal behind the decks.

It’s an absolute masterclass in maximalist, genre-traversing musical montage, anchored mainly by thudding industrial drums yet taking wild tangents into frantic free jazz solos, frazzled electronics and rugged sheet noise. Genuinely terrifying in parts, J takes on the spirit of a man possessed, unafraid to venture to full-scale freak-outs and mysterious middle-eastern trips. Few can execute such a deranged and committed method of arranging music.. Chicago madman Traxx perhaps? Maybe a handful of others, but for now let’s bear witness to one of the most exciting and most unsung DJs in Europe. BRAIN ZAPPPED!!!”
